Backups: what they do and do not protect you from

Daily automated backups are a safety net with holes you should know about.

Every plan here takes a daily backup with a retention period on your plan page (7, 14 or 30 days). That covers the common disasters: a bad plugin update, an accidental deletion, a hacked file you catch quickly.

What backups do not cover

  • Slow damage you notice late — if a hack sits for 40 days and retention is 30, every backup contains it.
  • Your registrar account, DNS settings at a third party, and anything outside the hosting account.
  • Legal or tax records you must keep for years — retention is measured in days, not years.

The one habit that matters

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — download a full backup before big changes and keep it somewhere that is not your hosting account. Before any risky change we take a snapshot automatically, but your own copy is the one no retention policy can age out.
