Moving a WordPress site without taking it offline
The order that keeps your site live while it moves: copy first, check, then switch.
Most moves go wrong in the same place: the domain is pointed at the new host before anyone has checked the copy works there. The fix is boring — move first, switch last.
The order that works
- Copy files and database to the new host while the old site stays live.
- Preview the copy on a temporary address and click through it: home, shop, checkout, forms.
- Move the domain only when the copy is right, at a quiet time.
- Keep the old copy for a week in case anything surfaces late.
What we do with you
We look at your current site first and tell you what is involved, agree a time with you, move files and settings, check the site works, and you choose the moment to switch. Nothing goes offline unexpectedly because the switch is the last step, not the first.
